From reading this article by Leonard Pitts-The common denominator in all the programs helping kids at risk,
is longer school days and longer school years; giving principals the power to hire good teachers and fire bad ones;
high expectations, parental involvement, counseling, consistency, incentives, and field trips.

Why should anyone pay to help Geoffrey Canada of Harlem Children's Zone help poor kids? Spending $3,500
a year on "Alfred", who is 8 is too much money? But when Alfred turns 18 and has to be locked up for ten years,
it costs $60,000 a year. Not to mention the other costs to society from "Alfred" actions. (Leonard Pitts, Jr.,
