The army gave Halliburtion a third extension! Halliburton got about $6 Billion
in contracts so far, and another $2.5 Billion for rebuilding the oil industry.
Questions and accusations of overcharging won't stop the money flow.

But a 60 year old woman we kept in jail 15 years for selling 8 ounces of cocaine
to an undercover cop. What a country!

Your Tax money goes to...

The Army is paying a new $15 million to CACI, the private company at Abu Ghraib in Iraq? The old contract was improper, said the inspector general. It was through the Interior Department, and was for information technology services.

One of their employees seems to have been “allowing or instructing military police ‘to facilitate interrogations by setting conditions which were not authorized’”. Does that mean he encouraged, or egged on our soldiers to sexually humiliate prisoners?

And our Army, our Defense Department, our “nation under God” decides to rehire this company, at least till the end of November, when we will owe them $15 million?

That’s what I understand from a small article down on p.4 in the Chicago Tribune, 8-5-04. Who owns this CACI?

After reading Chicago Tribune editorial, “Behind the Persian Curtain”

The U.S tells Iran we were Born again 1979, and they have to forgive and forget all we did before that? Like funding terrorists in 1953 to replace their choice of leader with a King?

Gee, what a surprise they don’t like us. Didn’t our CIA train the Shah’s secret police, the Savak? And how many weapons did the Shah buy from us to keep his people in line for 24 YEARS? And how many of our companies rolling in the dough?

Then Bud & Ollie fall for some spiel from the Jewish equivalent of “Curve Ball”, to sell anti-tank weapons and missiles to the Ayatollah? They even brought him a cake! Iran sees that we will do anything to make a buck. “Still, Iran may be tempted to unlearn the lesson” of terror attacks on Americans? What does that mean? That reads like propaganda-veiled threat. The Iranians are coming, the Iranians are coming.

Not a word either, about the commercial airline full of Iranians that our Navy shot down. Did the shooters get even 5 months of jail time? Was it us or NATO that shot down that Italian commercial airplane. Now we’re outraged that “terrorists” are making flying unsafe.

Iraq and Iran are longtime adversaries? But we snitched on “Leftists” in both countries, so Saddam and the Mullahs, respectively, could “eliminate” them? Did we give “the green light” to Saddam to invade Iran? We sold him arms, and made a direct satellite hook-up to inform him of Iranian troop movements? All this stuff is on the web, but not in our “world class” newspaper.

Except in the cartoons. That’s the only reason I continue to subscribe. I waded through both editorials, and find smooth Nazi-type writing, yet again. No Historical Perspective. Winston Churchill used poison gas on the Kurds. We used napalm, dioxin, and countless bombs in IndoChina. But its Saddam who had the murderous regime Were we paying him in 1958?

“Just the facts, ma’am”,you sneer at Martha. The Trib must know all the facts about Rumsfeld, but where’s the Martha-style scrutiny? Someone who has hurt no one is who you want locked up with a chamber pot, to paraphrase Rumpole of the Bailey.

And you wonder why people don’t read newspapers! It is aggravating, depressing, and time-wasting. Of course Iran wants nuclear weapons. What else will prevent us from invading? Israel has had nuclear weapons for years, and bombed Iraq’s nuclear reactor; but again, where’s equal scrutiny?

Iran “threatens the stability of the Middle East”? Reagan/Bush spending $2.2 Billion to arm and train 300,000 Mujahideen didn’t? Iran should observe “civilized norms”? When we suspended them for some 50 years to fight an “implacable enemy bent on world domination”? (George Crile in Charlie Wilson’s War) p.42, I think, the fine print.

“…the American government does not have endless patience with rogue regimes” is an incredible statement. The Somozas come to mind, Marcos, Pinochet, Papa Doc, etc. An American congressman is marrying the daughter of one of our most bloody friends, and the Trib editorializes about chipmunks. Wasn’t it Guatemala that had a huge Israeli arms selling business? No dots to connect?

And what was it about the Philippines? Didn’t we “liberate” them from the Spanish, and go on to occupy them and wage bloody war against rebels to our rule? Wasn’t there something about amnesty to all, except the Muslims, way back in Taft’s day? This thing has roots, and piling more “intelligence” crap on top of it is just going to make it grow.
