It seems we have more of a connection to Al Qaeda than Saddam does. We armed and trained 300,000 Mujahideen, and even brought some here for medical treatment (George Crile’s book, Charlie Wilson’s War).

Then Ronald Reagan was elected; he had thought President Eisenhower wasn’t tough enough on Communism, and was furious when Ike cut Defense spending, according to the book, Reagan’s War.

So a “Holy War” against the “evil empire” sounded like a great idea. But a Democratic Congressman from Texas seems to have made it a reality. Did we really spend $2 BILLION, plus matching funds from the Saudis, for the CIA to make the Mujahideen like our surrogate army? And with deniability so important, they didn’t know it was us enabling them to repel the Soviet invasion?

Reagan also reconnected with Iraq, taking them off the terrorist list. Saddam had killed all his critics, invaded Iran, and even after he gassed the Kurds, some of our biggest corporations lobbied against sanctions.

Saddam and Al Qaeda can both trace their bloodlines back to us. We’re connected from before the end of WWI, when all of the “civilized” nations realized the importance of oil. Winston Churchill was the first to use mustard gas on the Kurds. Apparently it’s a very cheap way to control uncivilized tribes. His quote is on the web.
